After a winter of snow and ice, of famine and strife, the alphas have come together to discuss lingering problems even as the snow begins to melt, and the winter flowers fade. It was decided that they should regroup, reaffirm their alliances, check up on their people, and make merry.

So Spring was here and Dawn was a little behind on the news that the winter had been unforgiving for many of her kin of the valley. As Hiro had mentioned the need for help with farming, the mare was hesitant about volunteering with her earthen magic, but she would not turn her back on those in need when she was fully capable of aiding them. It was cloudy today, not in a dreary way, but it kept the air cool and the ground moist, perfect for growing crops. For quite a few days she had reserved her strength, eating nutrient-rich foods, and keeping from any injury that would slow the day down. It wasn't just the physical labor Dawn was keeping mindful of, it was the energy she would spend on her magic, something more tiring than pulling a plow all day. With a whole pots worth of medicinal tea, which Hiro taught her, she was sure that she could avoid an episode... for the most part.

Dawn gathered different seeds into her satchel, packed a nice lunch of salted cashews, three bananas, some sweet-dough bread, and a water jug filled with cooled tea and set out for the day. She silently thanked Hiro in her mind for offering her the idea of staying at the keep, the marketplace had supplied most of the meal she had today, all things 'exotic' having come in from the trade ships. As she made it out of the keep, she admired the new life that was growing around the lake, subliminally reminding her the war was over and she wasn't in the past anymore. The first rounds Dawn would make would be the smaller farms, knowing that most of their crops would be to feed their own families, whereas the larger farms sold or traded most of their earthen bounty.

The mares direction led her a bit Northeast, remaining in the Esurien territory, stopping at the first small farm her hooves carried her to. No one was out yet, as it was only an hour after sunrise, so Dawn stepped to the door and gently knocked. Ears swiveled as she heard voices inside, footsteps, and her heart froze in her chest as a human male answered the door, looking taken aback by the sight of a taur kin at his doorstep. "Eh..." he seemed at a loss for words, unsure what to actually say to the woman. "Well... mornin'...?" Dawn blinked, debating on leaving, but she changed into her beta form and finally grew a smile on her face. "Good morning, I'm going about the valley to help around the farms... my trade is medicine, but I've learned of the harsh winter... may I be of any help?" she offered, unsure how the male would react to her offer. "My name is Dawn... by the way" Oh yeah, this was going to be rough.

There were a few moments of silence, centaur and human, staring at each other, and for a moment Dawn feared she would get shoo'ed away. "Alright" the man said with a sigh, it seemed the offered hand was more logical than being prideful and doing things on his own. "And the name is Dewitt..." Dawn smiled and nodded, following her new acquaintance to their farming ground. When her eyes spotted the plow she mentally grinned to herself, surely her horsepower, although quite punny, would definitely help lug that piece of wood and metal around with more ease than by human strength alone.

"Let's start plowing!" Dawn smiled, removed her satchel and taking on her gamma form, stunning the farmer once again. He hadn't expected her to one: have so many forms and two: be positive towards the possibility that she would be moving a plow, all before he even had the very chance to ask her. "You sure are somethin'" he sighed, walking to the dormant plow. Normally he would have to get a horse on loan or merely scrape by with his own strength, but this was definitely needed. Weathered hands lifted the tether and reins, carefully placing them over Dawn's head and body, his mind not wrapping around the situation quite yet.

Dawn grinned and shifted accordingly, soon moving to stand in front of the plow, waiting for instruction while wondering how well she'd fair in doing this in the first place. Dewitt shook his head, attaching the  leather to the plow and looked up at the mare before him, whom might I add was staring right back. "Well... alright then..." he spoke, so unaccustomed to a sentient 'horse'. "Um... please walk forward?" Dawn snorted, amusement in her eye and she nodded her head. "Surely" she replied and the lines went taught as the mare pulled the plow.

It was exhilarating to put forth so much effort, even as the time passed and more rows of plowed earth were tilled. It was just after high noon when the hardy work had been completely finished that the two stopped to rest from exerting so much effort. Dewitt removed the tether and lines before taking a bucket of water and poured it over Dawn's back, this time stunning the centaur. The man may not have been wealthy enough for his own horse, but he knew how to take care of one, especially Dawn who had worked up a sweat. Dawn shook and laughed as she got some of the water right back on Dewitt, earning a gruffled chuckle, it was nice to cool off and share a few laughs in the process.

"Dawn?" he asked softly, moving to sit down on a stump as the centaur changed into her Beta form and sat down near her satchel, ears alert. "Why did you help us?" The woman blinked for a moment, caught off guard, before a tender smile spread over her face. "Because I care" she replied, simple and sweet, it was good enough for Dewitt it seemed. Really, it was that simple, despite the awkward feelings at the beginning, melt away such things and it goes straight toward caring for ones neighbor. Surely as the hours of the day would pass on, Dawn and Dewitt would work hard to start up the first crops of the season, building a friendship with Dewitt's soon-to-be family as well. Yes, Dewitt's wife was expecting and it really had been a blessing for Dawn to show up, it had been hard for the couple, but things were looking so much brighter.

What a wonderful gift Spring had given the 3 and a half, counting the soon-to-be-born baby, valley folk.
